Step-by-Step Guide

    1. Make sure you wash your hands properly using soap and water.

    1. If the suppository is too soft, put it in the refrigerator for 10-15 minutes before use.

    1. Take the wrapper off the suppository.

    1. Or a water-based lubricant may be applied to the suppository tip if necessary.

    1. Examples of comfortable positions:
        • Lying on your side with your knees bent towards your chest
        • Stand with one leg raised on a chair
        • Kneeling with chest lowered to the ground

    1. Put the suppository in the rectum using the end that is pointed first and put it in about 1 inch

    1. To keep the suppository from falling out hold the buttcheeks together for a couple of minutes.

    1. If you can stay in the same position for about 15 minutes, the suppository will be able to dissolve into your rectum.

    1. Then wash your hands very well once again.

Important Tips

    • Try to place the suppository after a bowel movement if you can.

    • Try to keep the suppository inside for about 15-20 minutes, so that the medicine can be taken inside the body properly.

    • If you feel the need to have a bowel movement, do not do so for 15 minutes at least.

    • Review your doctor’s recommendations for frequency and timing of use.

If you have any questions or worries about using rectal suppositories, always seek advice from your healthcare provider.
